What are wall tray ceiling ? :A tray ceiling is a rectangular architectural feature that is either inverted or recessed. Tray ceilings can be plain, ornate, subtle or dramatic. Lighting is commonly featured in this design, and these ceilings are often found in dining rooms, hallways and living rooms.
Why do we use them?: The basic purpose of a tray ceiling is to break up an ordinary flat ceiling line and add a variation in height to create architectural interest

Snap a chalk line down the ceiling and wall the width and height of the tray, then nail in a 2x4 to the chalk line. Cut 1/2" OSB to the height measurement of the tray and nail a 2x4 on the flat side flush to the factory cut edge on the OSB.
Install the first run to the 2x4 on the ceiling. Take the total width measurement and subtract 3-1/2" to cut two 2x4 blocks. Put one block in each corner and then string a line from one corner to the other.
Run a quick layout at 16" on center on the 2x4 on the wall and the 2x4 on the OSB. Next go to the center layout mark of the tray and adjust it to the string line, then measure the 2x4 block that is needed. Repeat this until all the blocks are in. That now completes one run of the tray ceiling. Repeat these steps to finish up.
