Floor-Plan Dimensions
Aligned dimensioning is most common Numerals are 1/8” high Units are in feet and inches above 12” A variety of arrows can be used

Exterior Dimensions Overall dimensions are located outside of stud walls or exterior sheathing First line is smallest dimension from exterior wall to center of a window, door, or partition Second line is from outside wall to partitions Third line is the overall dimension

Interior Dimensions Locate interior partitions and features in relation to exterior walls Interior walls are located from outside wall to center of partition Between interior walls are dimensioned between centers Windows and doors are dimensioned to center

Standard Features Some standard features are not required to be dimensioned Items marked as NIC are “Not in Contract” Doors centered in a wall need not be dimensioned Dimensions may be indicated as a note

Common Sizes Thick lines are for walls, brick, and fireplaces
Thin lines are for everything else Dashed lines are for most appliances Make all sizes exact if using CADD

Floor-Plan Features Masonry veneer - Label the same as a wood framing, except veneer is noted or dimensioned separately Concrete-Block/Structural Masonry- Each feature and wall dimensioned to the edges Solid Construction - Used for basements and lined with fur strips for wall materials

Notes and Specifications
Schedules specify the sizes, quantity, and reference code Group items by type from largest to smallest Specific notes relate to specific features General notes apply to the entire drawing

Metric Unit of measure is the millimeter (mm)
Hard conversion - Units converted directly from English units Soft conversion - Material is milled directly to metric units Metric units are placed in parentheses after the English unit

Metric Unit names in lowercase Use vertical text for unit symbols
No space between number and symbol Do not use plural symbols Use plural for metric name Do not mix symbols and names
