3. 4.9 million barrels of crude oil, (210,000,000 U.S. gallons) was released into the Gulf of Mexico. Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida coastlines.

4. The spill caused extensive damage to marine and wildlife habitats and to the Gulf’s tourism and fishing industries. Oil in the Gulf of Mexico.

5. In October 2011, reports show dolphins and whales continue to die at about twice the normal rate. Thousands of marine animals, fish, and birds were killed by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
