Biology – Neely Tonos Biogeochemical Cycles How do greenhouse gases effect our environment? 9 th grade/honors
2
The Ground Has Gas – Data Nuggets Nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide are responsible for much of the warming of the global average temperature that is causing climate change. Sometimes soils give off, or emit, these greenhouse gases into the earth’s atmosphere, adding to climate change. Currently scientists are figuring out what causes differences in how much of each type of greenhouse gas soils.
3
Climate Change Graphs and Interpretation of the Graphs Use MathBench website to have students analyze popular climate change graphs and answer teacher made questions related to the graphs.
4
Other ways Greenhouse Gases have affected the environment Use the Gapminder website to investigate the correlations between carbon dioxide emmisions and the impact it has had on particular countries. Have students record and report their findings. Students find out what they are interested in when it comes to carbon dioxide emmisions.
5
Citizen Science Have students analyze data from projects that relate to climate change in some way such as the Project Bud Burst project. Have students possibly participate in the project or a related type of project. They need to do science, not just read about and observe the discipline.
6
Assessment Data Nuggets worksheet questions and graphs MathBench – teacher made questions related to graphs Gapminder – students create their own questions and answer them using data
