2 Archipelago a group or chain of islands clustered together in a sea or ocean.

3 Bay A body of water that is partly enclosed by land (usually smaller than a gulf)

4 Canyon A deep valley with very steep sides, often carved from the Earth by a river.

5 Cape a pointed piece of land that sticks out into a sea, ocean, lake, or river.

6 Channel A body of water that connects two larger bodies of water.

7 Cliff A steep face of rock and soil

8 Continent A large land mass on the Earth. The continents are: Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America.

9 Cove A small, horseshoe- shaped body of water along a coast. The water is surrounded by land formed of soft rock.

10 Delta A low, watery land formed at the mouth of a river. Formed from the silt, sand and small rocks deposited by the river as it flows.

11 Desert A very dry, arid land with little rainfall or vegetation.

12 Fjord A long, narrow sea inlet that is bordered by steep cliffs.

13 Geyser A natural hot spring that occasionally sprays water and steam above ground.

14 Glacier A long-lasting, slowly-moving river of ice on land.

15 Gulf A part of the ocean (or sea) that is partly surrounded by land (usually larger than a bay).

16 Hill A raised area or mound of land that is higher than the surrounding area.

17 Island A piece of land that is surrounded by water.

18 Isthmus A narrow strip of land with water on two sides that connects two larger landmasses.

19 Lake A large body of water surrounded by land on all sides.

20 Mountain A very tall, high, natural place on Earth-higher than a hill.

21 Ocean A large body of salt water that surrounds a continent. The oceans are: Arctic, Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific

22 Peninsula A body of land that is surrounded by water on three sides.

23 Plain Flat lands that have only small changes in elevation.

24 Plateau A large, flat area of land that is higher than the surrounding land.

25 Pond A small body of water that is surrounded by land (smaller than a lake).

26 Prairie A wide, relatively flat area of land that has grasses and only a few trees.

27 River A large, flowing body of water that usually empties into a sea or ocean.

28 Savanna A grassy plain in tropical and subtropical regions, with few trees.

29 Sea A large body of salt water that is often connected to an ocean. Can be partly or completely surrounded by land.

30 Strait A narrow body of water that connects to larger bodies of water.

31 Swamp A type of freshwater wetland with spongy, muddy land and a lot of water.

32 Tributary A stream or river that flows into a larger river.

33 Tundra A cold, open area that has no trees.

34 Valley A low place between mountains formed by a river or glacier moving through.

35 Volcano A mountainous vent in the Earth’s crust.

36 Waterfall When a river falls steeply off of the terrain.

37 Wetland An area of land that is often wet and low in oxygen.
