Share experiences and best practices on the reduction of harmful exhaust emissions from ships. Provide policy recommendations on the prevention of air pollution from ships. Develop a framework to use clean energy and reduce energy consumption regarding prevention of air pollution from ships. A 1-2 days workshop will be held. A final report will be developed, containing best practices, a framework to use clean energy regarding the reduction of harmful exhaust emission, and providing recommendations. Following the concurrence of the Secretariat, Canada has taken over the responsibility of PO, and the new PO is: Mr. Daniel Haché Director International Marine Policy, Transport Canada

Thirty Eight APEC Transportation Working Group Meeting, Bali, Indonesia 1 – 5 July 2013 7 It is planned to extend the completion date of the project from 31 December, 2013 to 30 June, 2014. This extension is to ensure a sufficient time for the implementation of the project so that the objectives of the project would be well met. A written request for the extension will be submitted to the Secretariat by Mr. Haché.

Thirty Eight APEC Transportation Working Group Meeting, Bali, Indonesia 1 – 5 July 2013 8 The project will be conducted in 3 phases: Phase I (July 2013 to October 2013) To collect and verify data, and conduct full assessment of environmental impact of harmful exhaust emissions from ships in the APEC regions. Phase II (November 2013 to March 2014) To conduct evaluation on measures and practices. Phase III (April 2014 to June 2014) To formulate policy recommendations.
