Carbon Footprint A presentation by Bethany Hall
2
What is a carbon footprint? A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gasses emitted by an organization or person. Greenhouse gasses are emitted in many ways, such as: ~ Food production and consumption ~ Transport (i.e. cars, busses, trains) ~ Land clearance, or deforestation ~ Burning of fossil fuels (i.e. oil, coal, gas)

The greenhouse effect The greenhouse effect plays a big part in global warming and climate change. The greenhouse effect itself is caused by lots of carbon being released into the atmosphere, thus thickening the layer of greenhouse gases already in the atmosphere. Consequently, the suns rays get trapped in the atmosphere, thus heating up the earth and also affecting climate everywhere

How can we prevent this? There are lots of ways for us to reduce our carbon footprint. We could walk more instead of using modes of transport that emit lots of carbon into the atmosphere. Or if that isn’t an option for you, you could try simply turning lights off when you leave a room. Maybe you could consider taking part in WWF’s 7 day challenge.

A little reality check If everyone were to live the same lifestyle that the average person lives, we would need 3 planets to sustain our life on this earth.
