Model for Pesticide Spill in Louisville using GLEAMS Natsuko Shiomi
2
Overview Define a problem Model Description Input data Output data Sensitive Analysis Conclusion
3
Define a problem (Case Study) In Louisville, KY, there was a pesticide spill Diazinon Nearly 1000gal spilled As much as 500gal was cleaned up Find out how much time does it take to remove all the pesticide???
4
How does GLEAMS work? Continuous simulation Field scale model Developed extension of the chemicals, Runoff and Erosion from CREAMS Assumes -homogeneous land use, soil, and precipitation.
5
How does GLEAMS work? cont…
6
Input data Precipitation Hydrology (soil information) Weather (temperature) Erosion Pesticide Nutrient Time
7
Output data Precipitation Weather (temperature) Erosion Pesticide Nutrient
8
Sensitive Analysis Both Application rate and timing is highly sensitive Soil type and root zone are also sensitive
9
Conclusion As root zone increases, the total pesticide loss decreases. If the pesticide spill occur one day before rain storm in summer, total loss does not increase much, however if it is in winter it increases by about 3.4 times. Changing in spill date does not affect to its detention time.
