Design According to the Passive House Criteria Design – Heating Systems and Energy Supply Design – Solar Energy Utilization Planning and Concept Development Realization and Construction Processes Basic educational course about Passive Houses, organised by a local partner in the European funded PASS-NET project Passive House Seminar for Professionals from the Building Sector Day 1Design – Solar energy utilization Day 2 Planning and Calculations – introduction to PHPP Energy Statistics, Standards and Certifications Design – Air tightness Design – Ventilation systems Design – Windows Regional examples of built Passive Houses

Day 1 Realization and construction process Passive House Seminar for Professionals from the Building Sector Planning process –Clients with clear demands, –Demand should be explained in explicit terms –Impossible for contractor to fulfil demands which have not been not asked for –The project leader is a key person Picture:Ulla Janson

Day 1 Realization and construction process Passive House Seminar for Professionals from the Building Sector Planning process –Do not run a relay race! Lots of information will disappear when the baton is handed over. –All consultants need to work together in a “working cycle” to obtain a well functioning building –No new or special materials are needed – just some extra thoughts on how to use the material in the most energy efficient way. Day 1 Realization and construction process Passive House Seminar for Professionals from the Building Sector Education All participants must be educated before the building process starts –4 – 8 hours –Subjects: what is a passive house? why is it so important with air tightness? is it different for me as a carpenter to build a passive house compared to building regular houses? It is enough that one carpenter is not trained to potentially ruin the work in obtaining air tightness for all others Field trips visiting erected passive houses has shown to be a great inspiration for the contractors

Day 1 Realization and construction process Passive House Seminar for Professionals from the Building Sector Work on site Everyone on site needs to work together focusing on the goals mutually set up ”Fix your own holes in the plastic foil” The local manager –must know the goals and demands set up by the client –needs to easily answer project-related questions from the carpenters on site to keep the work running smoothly Picture: Ulla Janson

Day 1 Realization and construction process Passive House Seminar for Professionals from the Building Sector Work on site – moisture awareness Carefully protect the building materials from moisture Theoretically calculated drying time for concrete might not correspond to the time actually needed in reality Measurements give the right moisture content Picture: Ulla Janson

Day 1 Realization and construction process Passive House Seminar for Professionals from the Building Sector Work on site – air tightness Installation layers protects the plastic foil, both in the ceiling and in walls Pictures: Ulla Janson Air tightness might be difficult to solve on site important to have a dialogue between the carpenter and the constructor before the work on site starts
11
Day 1 Realization and construction process Passive House Seminar for Professionals from the Building Sector Work on site – air tightness Develop a routine for measurement of air tightness in the building process An early measurement of the air tightness in the project shows if the work is done in the right way - complete the measurement of air tightness with a thermal camera Pictures: Ulla Janson

Day 1 Realization and construction process Passive House Seminar for Professionals from the Building Sector The ideal Passive House project Plan to build in the right time during the year Make sure everyone involved in the project are well educated concerning passive houses Test moisture content and air tightness early in the project Picture: Ulla Janson
