North American Unit Biomes
2
A biome is a specific environment that’s home to living things suitable for the climate. Examples are Tundra, Coniferous forest, Prairie, Deciduous forest, Desert, Tropical rain forest, and urban sprawl.
3
What are we doing? We are going to research each of the North American Biomes. We will use the ipads and go to http://kids.nceas.ucsb.edu/biomes/index.html among other websites. http://kids.nceas.ucsb.edu/biomes/index.html We will write descriptions about the different biomes including plants and animals that live there.
4
Tundra Located in the Rocky Mountains. Very cold, harsh winters. Frozen soil (permafrost) Small shrubs Polar Bears, Seals and walruses.
5
Coniferous Forest Coniferous trees dominate this region. These are trees with pine needles. These trees can survive colder weather. Snowy cold winters, Warm summers. Deer, Elk, wolves, bears, foxes.
6
Prairie Large grassland areas in the middle of the United States. Buffalo, Elk and deer live in this area. Hot summers with mild winters. Deer, fox, prairie dogs.
7
Desert Long Hot summers with mild winters. Little precipitation. Cacti and sparse trees dominate this region. Lizards, Snakes and camels are examples of animals.
8
Tropical Rain Forest Large dense forest. Heavy precipitation. (rainfall) Has the largest variety of plants and animals. Very warm and humid.
9
Biome Illustration and Short Story Your job is to create an illustration on the top half of a line piece of paper that represents your biome. It is to include two different animals and plants. On the lower half of the line paper, write a short story that takes place in that biome. Have the story include those two plants and animals.

Biomes 1) Tundra 2) Coniferous Forest 3) Prairie 4) Desert 5) Rain Forest/Tropical Rain Forest

North America Biomes On the blank map(provided by Mr. Johnson) you are to color the different biomes. An example map can be found at http://biologycorner.com/resources/biome_m ap_key.gif http://biologycorner.com/resources/biome_m ap_key.gif There also has to be a key in the lower left hand corner of your map to show what colors represent different biomes.
