1. A tide is the point at which waves break on shore. 2. Tides are caused by surface currents and wind. 3. The moon’s gravity causes oceans to bulge outwards. 4. Where the ocean bulges the most, there is a rip tide. 5. Earth’s orbit around the moon causes daily tide changes. 6.Everyday at the Jacksonville Pier, there are two low tides and two high tides.

1) Caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun on the oceans 2) One low-tide-high-tide cycle is about 12 hours and 25 minutes 3) High tide is the highest level that the ocean reaches on shore 4) Low tide is the lowest level that the ocean reaches on shore

1) The moon pulls the oceans toward itself causing a bulge on the side closest to the moon 2) The moon also pulls the earth toward itself causing a bulge on the side away from the moon

1) Spring Tide – tides caused when the sun and moon are lined up with the earth (full and new moon) a) high tides are higher and low tides are lower 2) Neap Tide – tides caused when the sun and moon are at right angles to each other (first and third quarter) a) high tides are lower and low tides are higher
