Heat is energy that flows from one object to another. 3 types of heat transfer: Conduction, Convection, Radiation Heat moves from a hotter to colder objects. When heat is added, molecules move faster. When heat is taken away, molecules move slower. When a solid gets heated, the molecules expand. When it cools, the molecules contract. Insulators slow the movement of heat. Ex. Wool, plastic, wood, fiberglass, and snow.
4
Temperature is the measure of how fast the molecules move. Heat is the thermal energy that moves those molecules.
6
Conduction- the flow of heat energy from one molecule to another. Molecules vibrate in solids to pass the energy. Conductor- material that transmits heat Some metals are good conductors. Copper Aluminum
8
During convection, heat is circulated throughout fluids, such as air and water. When the liquid/gas molecules heat, they move around more and become less dense. Therefore, they begin to rise. Wind is a convection current.
10
Radiation is the transmission of heat between 2 objects that are not touching. Sunlight is a wave of radiant energy that can pass through space.
