Lookout Mountain Plateau and various caves are the major landforms with valley below
Nickname is the TAG corner. It stands for Tennessee, Alabama, & Georgia

The soil in the region consist of shale, clay, limestone & sandstone

The soil consist of sandy loam (clay,
sand , & leaves - organic matter) and just clay in other parts
Unfortunately, the soil type and slope of the ground leads to erosion
Highest & largest group of mountains can be found here
Brasstown Bald = highest point in GA (4,784 ft above sea level)

Region contains the start Appalachian Trail (AT) at Springer Mountain (stretches for 2,144 miles from GA to ME)
Amicalola Falls = largest waterfall in GA (over 700 ft.)
Other points of interest = Tallulah Gorge (1,000 ft) & the city of Helen (Alpine Village)
Cities include Dahlonega, Helen, Blairsville, and Hiawassee

The soil in this region is clay.
Underneath the surface in the Piedmont, areas of bedrock (solid rock) consisting of mostly granite, Marble can be found
Home to GA’s state capital, Atlanta
Other cities include: Atlanta, Athens, Gainesville, Augusta Macon and Columbus

½ of the entire state’s population lives here
Known as the cotton belt of antebellum days

Flowing water from higher elevation cuts deep channels into the sandy soil of the coastal plains
A drop in elevation results in a waterfall
The fall line prevented many early settlers from continuing northward. WHY ?
