/ 17 October 2007 Unlimited Potential – to contract or not to contract EDS – who’s EDS largest IT services company – globally and in NZ grown through winning major outsourcing deals small number of large clients rather than many smaller ones applications, infrastructure, business process outsourcing applications view of the EDS’ world …..……

/ 17 October 2007 Unlimited Potential – to contract or not to contract EDS and contractors short term peaks of technical skills contractor dominated markets a few key people we haven’t been able to replace occasionally to see someone in action to help upskill our people but we don’t like to do it

/ 17 October 2007 Unlimited Potential – to contract or not to contract Because……. we really want to build an EDS team we view contractors as short term investment in process and methodology is high loss of IP impact on other staff cost

/ 17 October 2007 Unlimited Potential – to contract or not to contract Our expectations productive by lunchtime fully capable highly flexible transition your skills understand it’s short term understand that it may finish early

/ 17 October 2007 Unlimited Potential – to contract or not to contract Upsides of contracting multiple projects multiple organisations multiple industries variety travel

/ 17 October 2007 Unlimited Potential – to contract or not to contract Upsides of contracting $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

/ 17 October 2007 Unlimited Potential – to contract or not to contract Downsides of contracting not fully part of the organisation resentment from other team members lack of training contracts terminated or not renewed gaps between contracts managing your business

/ 17 October 2007 Unlimited Potential – to contract or not to contract Conclusions EDS would prefer not to contract but accepts that it is part of our current resourcing strategy I know a number of career contractors – it is a legitimate choice but those people are doing much the same now as 10 years ago If you want to continue to develop new skills then generally be employed Think about it – even try it for a while – it’s your choice - but it’s not just about the dollars
