A dental hygienist removes soft and hard particles from teeth, teach patients how to practice good oral hygiene,assist dentist with work, take part and assist in minor dental procedures, and show patients how to stay on the right path of having good dental care. Dental Hygienists examine and work on peoples teeth and gums below and above the gum line, and record signs of diseases.

In high school, to get prepared for becoming a dental hygienist, classes you should take are biology, chemistry, and mathematics. Required aspects to having a job as a dental hygienist is that you must have a degree from a certified dental hygiene school and a state license. Having passed a state licensing examination is the way you will receive a license. Most people, after completing high school, do two years of college to earn their associates degree or do a four year time towards a bachelor’s degree. People working towards their master’s degree are more likely looking towards a higher increase in pay.

Schools that offer classes for dentistry majors are :  The New York School for Medical and Dental Assisting  Old Dominion University located in Norfolk, Virginia.  Howard University college of Dentistry located in Washington, D.C.  All of these schools are also some of the top dental assisting colleges in the country.

 The annual salary of a dental hygienist is around 68,000 dollars. Dental hygienist hourly get paid around 33 dollars.  The National salary of a dental hygienist is 58,000 dollars.  The salary of a dental hygienist in the state of Virginia is around 60,000 dollars, and locally in the city of Virginia Beach the annual salary of a dental hygienist is around 49,000 dollars.  The skill level, experience, location, and years of education as to working as a dental hygienist all varies out as into how much an individual gets paid. Attending dental hygienist workshops and passing the graduates program other than getting a certificate or degree in the field are two ways of getting a higher pay.

 The career outlook for dental hygienist will always be needed and around, and is also growing faster than normal. Did you know that in some areas of the country there is actually a shortage of dental hygienist? There will always be a need for this career because as older dentist begin to retire, opportunities for upcoming young dental hygienist are ready to take their place.
