School 2.0: Technology and the Future of School

Nanuet Technology Planning Committee The charge of the Technology Planning Committee, Nanuet 2.0, is as follows: Define the kind of learning environment that our students need in order to be successful in the 21st century. Technology is a tool and not an end in itself. It is not in the scope of the committee to discuss or pick hardware. All hardware decisions will be made by the district based on the recommendations for teaching and learning included in the plan. The focus of the committee will be on teaching and learning. Let’s watch a video about School 2.0!

School 2.0 What is School 2.0? School 2.0 is a federal initiative to start conversation about “next generation schools.” It is about student success in today’s rapidly changing -global economy. This requires the collaboration of the stakeholders: People in the Community, School and Home. The ultimate goal in School 2.0 is to design the "next generation of schools" that ultimately prepares students for the 21st Century.

School 2.0 Learning Ecosystem Map This map is intended as a tool to encourage brainstorming. To inspire our community to think about transforming the use of technology to enhance and enrich student learning. School 2.0 is not a recommendation or a list of what communities have to do. School 2.0 is a conversation starter. The purpose is to get people in the community, schools and at home to start a discussion that answers the question: How will technology support, encourage, and enhance student learning in the Nanuet Schools?

Please explore and reflect on the web-based interactive Learning Ecosystem Map. The link to the map and for feedback can be found at the Nanuet District homepage: Visit the Nanuet School District Website: Click on NANUET 2.0 Technology District Planning Please send us feedback from your perspective as the parents and guardians at home. Your comments may be used in the written plan to be submitted to the New York State Department of Education. *Please specify if you wish your comments to be anonymous

Here are some questions to think about as you explore the School 2.0 interactive map: 1.How will technology support, encourage, and enhance student learning in the Nanuet Schools? 2.What peaks your interest most about the School 2.0 Learning Ecosystem? 3.What might you add to Nanuet’s learning ecosystem? We encourage you to share your thoughts!
