What can parents do? You do NOT need to know anything special, but you DO need to read the requirements for the events in which your child will compete (to be announced next week) Help your child meet with partner to work on their event preparation outside of meetings and school Read through the rules and make sure your child can show how each part of their device meets the regulations listed in the rules (proper dimensions, allowed materials, etc.)
How can parents help? Make sure your child is preparing for the event appropriately Rules are specific and picky; is a notebook required? do their notes need to be typed or hand-written? Help supervise after-school meetings Provide snacks, supplies, etc.
How can parents help? Give students a “push” in the right direction – students must build, create, research - but they often need someone to help them get started Connect students to the proper resources (library, internet, a neighbor, co-worker, or relative with specialized knowledge)
How can parents help? We need experts! Please look at each of these events and share names of people you know that have expertise in any field. Sometimes just a couple of hours with an expert can jump-start research and development of an event or build, giving our students the confidence they need to succeed!
