FIRING ON FORT SUMTER When: April 12, 1861-April 13, 1861 Where: South Carolina Bloodiest war in U.S. history Confederates won

BATTLE OF ANTIETAM When: September 16-18, 1862 Where: Sharpsburg, Maryland Union won

SIEGE OF VICKSBURG When: May 18-July 4, 1863 Where: Vicksburg Union won

BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG When: July 1-3, 1863 Where: Gettysburg, Pennsylvania Union won

EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, It was meant to end slavery but just ended up setting a couple thousand slaves free.

ASSASSINATION OF LINCOLN Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 16, Abraham was at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C. when he was shot by John Wilkes Booth.

LEE’S SURRENDER AT APPOMATTOX COURT HOUSE When: April 19, 2865 What Happened: General Robert E. Lee, surrendered to General Grant because the Confederate army was in horrible shape. Plus the Confederate States of America's capital had been captured by the Union.
