Reviewing Level Two Tenses Compiled by Ms. T. D. Moss and Grade Seven Class

Perfect Tense Formula Ms. Albury says: “The perfect tense formula is have + (-en).” She is CORRECT!!! The perfect tense uses the helping verb “have” and the (-en) or past tense of the main verb.

Perfect Tense Formula During Mr. Sands’ explanation, he mentions that the helping verb must be conjugated in the present tense to fit the subject when writing in the present perfect. Is he correct?

Perfect Tense Formula Yes. When writing in the present perfect, the helping verb is changed to the present tense and made to fit the subject.

Perfect Tense Formula During Mr. Smith’s mini- lesson, he suggested using this sentence: I had been to Nassau. Is this a good sample sentence?

Perfect Tense Formula No. In this case, it would be better to use the simple past tense: I went to Nassau. It might have worked better in the present perfect tense: I have been to Nassau.

Perfect Tense Formula During Ms. Jones’s mini- lesson, she suggested using this sentence: I been to Palm Beach. Is this a good sample sentence?

Perfect Tense Formula No. This sentence is missing the helping verb. It should say: I have been to Palm Beach.

Perfect Tense Formula During Ms. Seymour’s mini-lesson, she suggested using this sentence: I have traveled to Florida multiple times. Is this a good sample sentence?

Perfect Tense Formula Yes. She has correctly used the helping verb and the main verb in the (-en) form.
