What Year Is It? BY Erica Lemberg

It was thought by this time that humans would be capable of amazing feats.………and in some ways we are.

In this year, the human genome project announced to have mapped DNA. Scientist are still looking for the codes to unlock the secrets of cancer, diabetes Alzheimer’s to name a few.

Time Warner was bought out by the ever popular America Online.

 In this year NSYNC became a household name. “No Strings Attached” sold 2 million copies in their first 2 weeks.

We watched movies some we will remember like “Gladiator” which won best picture at the Academy awards.  

We wore clothes that were unique…..some that have stood the test of time, others that we hope to forget.

 We endured moral and ethical decisions about immigrants like the seven year old boy, Elian Gonzalez. Elian’s mother drowned while attempting to leave Cuba and start a new life in the U.S. Elian was returned to Cuba to be with his biological father.

The world was shocked when the Concord, Flight 4590, Air France crashed killing all 109 passengers on board.

In Politics: The nation waited for Florida’s voting results as Bill Clinton was ending 8 years as president.

Al Gore and George W. Bush were both informed they were the President. Ooops..

And George W. Bush Became our 43rd president.

But the biggest and most terrifying event of this year was………………..

 Y2K is when the computer systems supposedly erased all our information due to a computer error. All the systems were thought to crash……..

But, we all survived at least until 2012

So what Year was it?
