MODELING REVETMENT REMOVAL AND IMPLICATIONS FOR MEANDER MIGRATION OF SELECTED BENDS RIVER MILES 222 TO 179 OF THE SACRAMENTO RIVER Eric W. Larsen Dept. of Environmental Design University of California, Davis September 30, 2008

Meander migration with revetment removal 50 year simulations Progressive migration Cut-off simulation Simulate future patterns with and without revetment at 9 sites Simulations at 5-yr increments Used to compare for mitigation purposes Used for MEI modeling

Area reworked patterns Two sites have limited increase with revetment removed. One site experiences cutoff. 6 sites have significant movement. Also influences the bend downstream at some sites.

Summary Assess the results of removing revetment Compare area reworked at selected sites from RM 179 to 222 Used for mitigation or other purposes.
