Energy Study Session

What materials do you need to build a circuit? Battery load (such as ligh tbulb, buzzer or motor) copper wire switch

Draw a diagram to represent how a glass mirror would reflect light.

 A smooth, shiny object reflects light best, such as  a mirror  shiny piece of metal  water in a still pond  tinted windows Name a surface that would reflect the most light (other than a mirror).

What causes this to happen? Light rays change direction in the water

 When water is still, like in a pond When does water reflect light so that it creates a mirror-like image?

What source of energy is being used to power this? Light (solar) energy

 Flashlight or some light source  Anything that the light would pass through, then bend, such as  Prism  lens  glass of water Name 2 materials you would need to show how light travels in a straight line until the light travels into a new medium. What else would you need if you want to collect and record the information from this Demonstration? A notebook

 Anything that requires a battery or has to be plugged in, then has moving parts, such as  A fan  A pencil sharpener  A robot  A blender  Etc. Name two objects that use electrical energy to move an object

 Tell the teacher What should you do if you are working with something that starts to feel too hot to handle?

What question could be answered from this data? What materials conduct electricity?

 Mechanical energy The movement of something is what energy?

Draw a diagram of a circuit that would produce a sound. Be sure to label all of your parts.
