Unsure Foundations The Faith of our Parents a.We receive a lot from our parents – height, hair color, personality, etc. b.Even our faith is most often first a replication of our parents. c.There must come a time when our faith becomes our own. Judgment is an individual activity. (Romans 14:11-12, 1 Peter 4:4-5) Our parents could be wrong. (Matthew 7:21-23, James 1:22)

Unsure Foundations The Faith of the Preacher (Elder, Deacons, etc.) a.There is nothing wrong with having mentors or teachers in the faith. (Titus 2:3-5, 1 Timothy 1:2) b.Yet, leaders in our lives are not above mistakes and falling. (Numbers 13)

Unsure Foundations The Faith of the Majority a.“If this many people believe it, it must be right.” b.“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the ways is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” (Matthew 7:13-14, ESV)

Unsure Foundations The Emotion that I Feel a.This is a popular foundation for the current generation. b.“But they were urgent, demanding with loud cries that He should be crucified. And their voices prevailed.” (Luke 23:23, ESV)

Unsure Foundations Ease in this life… a.Are we so blessed in this country and in this life that our faith is based upon the ease we enjoy? b.“Then Satan answered the LORD and said, “Does Job fear God for no reason? Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and he will curse you to your face.”” (Job 1:9-11 ESV)

Sure Foundation Jesus is the sure foundation. a.1 Corinthians 3:11 – “For no one can lay a foundation than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” b.Acts 4:5-12 c.Ephesians 2:20 – “…but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord.” 1 Peter 2:6 (Isaiah 28:16)

Sure Foundation Jesus is the Son of God. a.Matthew 16:16, Romans 1:3-4, 1 John 4:15 Jesus has died for your sins. a.Romans 5:8, Galatians 1:4, Ephesians 5:2, Titus 2:14, 1 John 3:16, Revelation 1:5 The Bible is the Word of God and my guidelines. a.James 1:21 God will reward those who obey him with an eternity with Him. a.Romans 2:10, Matthew 25:23

Conclusion “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
