"It's better to 'waste' the time backing up than to dread the effects of a disaster that could happen any time. Redundancy in communication options is very important, as is having off-site resources for communication when your systems are down." - Susan, Eagle's Nest Foundation
IT and mission alignment flickr.com/scottwills
IT needs to stop being the ones asking for new money. If you have stronger relationships with the rest of your organization and you help them develop the business case, they can ask for the budget for the project. Notice I said ask for money for the project, not for the tech. It is just different when someone else asks to fund a project, rather than IT asking for more technology. Let the rest of your org become the champions for technology. - Steve Heye, YMCA of Chicago

flickr.com/dunechaser accidental techie vs purposeful techie
A major issue the Accidental Techie has with her responsibilities (however informal they may be) is that they conflict with her core job function. Not everyone is a natural born multitasker, but the Purposeful Techie puts in place parameters that allow her to balance competing needs. It’s basic, but scheduling time in her calendar for maintenance and individual computer-user assistance at appropriate intervals in the day, week or month will bring order to the support role and create boundaries. - Mark Shaw

flickr.com/clevercupcakes Don’t start with the unlimited-budget scenario and build down from it. Instead, start with the simplest, cleanest solution and build up from it.
