How do you feel about openers and closures? Seriously? I have so much content to get through and you want me to worry about this crap? What is an opener and a closure? I’m onboard I just need ideas! I think I’m good at one but not the other

Why Have an Opener? Get kids thinking It’s a hook Get them engaged Have them remember previous knowledge No more than minutes

Examples: A question to ponder: Which character in the novel do you relate most to and why? Which element on the Periodic Table do you think is the most important and why? On death row you have a last meal. When you return home from war, you have a first meal. What would you want your first meal to be?

Other Examples? Team builder activities like puzzles Review questions from last class or a practice problem Use your exit slip! WIK Chart in pairs You are the experts! What examples have you done that work? (10 Minutes Discussion) Share!

Text Seriously? After all that planning, prepping, creating, acting, etc. you are complaining that you are not sure I closed my lesson? My post- obs. meeting ME
