To learn what a Haiku is. To create our own Haiku poems.
EXAMPLES Snow melts. Suddenly, the village is full of children. Frog sunning on lily pad as dragonfly darts by. Thrapp! Sudden spring storm-- a family of ducks paddles around the deserted lake. A student answers. A teacher buys a pen to correct the question. I kill an ant and realize my three children have been watching.
DEFINITION A haiku is a form of Japanese poetry that describes an image very quickly.
DEFINITION There are three lines, using very few words, like this.
DEFINITION The first line shows one thing, the second line shows another thing and the third line connects them.

YOU NEED: An image of two things somehow connected. Think of a wise old man saying these poems to explain images. Have fun and be creative
NATURE Create some Haiku about nature: animals, trees, etc. Thrown out some ideas for images.
SCHOOL Create some Haiku about school: Discuss school images with the person beside you.
WHAT OTHER IMAGES COULD WE USE?
HOMEWORK Find an image – a photo, a google picture, if you want to draw an image or use one of your schoolbooks. Write a Haiku describing it. Next week bring in that image and the Haiku
