Slideshow Project DOI: /JRRD JSP Aim – To examine the effectiveness of using immediate video feedback (IVF) in a rehabilitation setting to train manual wheelchair users with spinal cord injury (SCI) in learning three wheelchair skills: Propelling the wheelchair on an inclined surface. Stationary wheelies. Ascending/descending a curb. Relevance – With reduced rehabilitation time, patients with SCI who become full-time manual wheelchair users may not receive adequate wheelchair skill training before discharge.

Immediate video feedback on ramp, wheelie, and curb wheelchair skill training for persons with spinal cord injury. J Rehabil Res Dev. 2015;52(4):XX-XX. Slideshow Project DOI: /JRRD JSP Method Manual wheelchair users with recent SCI were matched on motor function level, age, and sex and randomly assigned to a control or experimental group (9 pairs). Each learned three wheelchair skills followed by testing: – Skill competency test. – Retention test. – Transfer test. Paired t-tests used to examine training time, spotter intervention needed, and successful rate of performance. Repeated-measures analysis of variance and Bonferroni adjustment test used to examine differences between groups on wheelchair skills and tests.

Immediate video feedback on ramp, wheelie, and curb wheelchair skill training for persons with spinal cord injury. J Rehabil Res Dev. 2015;52(4):XX-XX. Slideshow Project DOI: /JRRD JSP Results No differences were found between the two groups in training times on the three skills (experimental vs control): – Ramp: ± 5.80 min vs ± 7.85 min – Wheelie: ± 6.03 vs ± min – Curb: ± vs ± min
