Curriculum Night Jeremy Tubb

Welcome to Mr. Tubb’s Room While we are waiting... Either think of or write down any burning questions that you would like to have answered.

Math Class Expectations Be here everyday Be on time Be responsible Be prepared Participate and show effort Ask questions and contribute

What does math class look like today? Instead of straight rows of desks, you may see students working in groups Instead of seeing the teacher lecturing, you may see students working together to solve complex problems and the teacher facilitating the process Instead of students reciting memorized facts and procedures, you may see students discussing and questioning solutions to problems.

Math Grades Grades will be taken on… Tests (announced ahead of time) Quizzes (not always announced) Homework Class work Projects

Grading 6 th grade work. Grades are put in the grade book in points and not out of 100%. A 12 on a quiz might be a perfect score. Homework is always out of 10 points.

Math Homework Given most every class. Having practice everyday is important. Double check your child’s Agenda Stay connected to the Parent Portal Program online (if need a password call school secretary) Be checking homework online on teacher’s website.

Math Homework Tips Homework is CRITICAL in the CMP2 program “I have no idea how to solve this problem!" "How can I help my child?” Prompt and Question: Does this remind you of other problems? What have you come up with so far? Where do you think you should start? What is the problem asking you to do? Would drawing a picture or diagram help? How can I help you without solving it for you?

How can you help in Math!! You are one of your child’s most valuable resources! Regardless of your experiences with math, you can help your child: Be positive! Link mathematics with daily life Make mathematics fun Learn about math related careers Have high expectations Support homework, don’t do it for them.

Why Math is important! Students who take algebra and geometry go on to college at much higher rates than those who do not (83% vs. 36%) Almost 90% of all new jobs require math skills beyond the high school level Strong math skills are needed for understanding graphs, charts and opinion polls in a newspaper, for calculating house and car payments, and for choosing cell phone service provider.

Contacts Websites: Please be sure to get a password for Parent Portal and check it often.
