Past Perfect Progressive Examples: The police had been looking for the criminal for two years before they caught him. We had been waiting for Nancy for over three hours before she finally arrived yesterday.
4 The past perfect progressive also may express an activity in progress close in time to another activity or time in the past. Past Perfect Progressive Examples: When Judy got home, her hair was still wet because she had been swimming. I went to Jane’s house after the funeral. Her eyes were red because she had been crying.
The past perfect continuous tense expresses longer actions in the past before another action in the past. For example: Ram started waiting at 9am. I arrived at 11am. When I arrived, Ram had been waiting for two hours. Past Perfect Progressive
