Plunger lifetime RDT measurements JYFL-Köln collaboration

Limitations: Need heavy projectile to get high recoil velocity - we used Kr Need a degrader thick enough to get the shift → increase of the Ge – counting rate → drop in RITU transmission due to the small-angle scattering: 108 Pd( 83 Kr,3n) 188 Pb + 2.5mg/cm 2 Au → transmission reduced by 3 The best : 1 mg/cm2 Mg → dE similar to Au, Ge- rate OK, reduction factor of 2 Only the 15 backward angle (158º and 134º) Ge- detectors useful Typically at least 10 distances need to be measured Cross-section limits : 100µb in RDT 1mb in RG But - RDT results in very clean spectra !
