IS THERE A LINK BETWEEN VACCINATION AND AUTISM NO Maggie Hague

Mercury  Ethylmercury is used rather than harmful methylmercury.  Ethylmercury is an organic compound of mercury  Ethylmercury is a breakdown product of Thimerosal  Thimerosal is used as a preservative in vaccines

The Autism Spectrum  The autism epidemic - In 1994 there was an expansion of diagnostic criteria for autism. - Autism is not a thing, therefore it cannot be correlated with anything else

Taking Away Thimerosal  In Denmark in 1992 Thimerosal was removed from vaccines.  Autism rates rose higher and higher even though there was no thimerosal in the vaccines.

Wakefield  A British doctor, Wakefield, published research in 1998 linking vaccinations to autism in the MMR vaccination  Was later found to have skewed data about patients.  “clear evidence of falsification of data should now close the door on this damaging vaccine scar” British Medical Journal

Correlations  The claims of autism and vaccines have not been scientifically proven  This issue has been powered more by the public rather than science.

CDC  Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states  Evidence from several studies examining trends in vaccine use and changes in autism frequency does not support such an association.

National Institute of Child Health and Human Development  The institute of Child Health and Human Development states  There is no conclusive scientific evidence that any part of a vaccine or combination of vaccines causes autism, even though researchers have done many studies to answer this important question. There is also no proof that any material used to make or preserve the vaccine plays a role in causing autism.

Institute of Medicine  In 2004 the institute of medicine stated  “Given the lack of direct evidence for a biological mechanism and the fact that all well designed epidemiological studies provide evidence of no association between thimerosal and autism the committee recommends that cost benefit assessments regarding the use of thimerosal-containing versus thimerosal-free vaccines and other biological or pharmaceutical products should not include autism as a potential risk.”
