optional – not graded

We’ll grade the Procedure one Item at a time - just like we do with Lab Write-Ups.

Manipulated (Independent/changed) Variable ONLY ONE Manipulated Variable is identified in the Procedure. (which roller coaster is used) MV 1 Responding (Dependent/measure d) Variable The Responding Variable measured (heart rate or beat per minute). RV 1 Controlled (kept the same) Variable ONE Controlled Variable must be identified or implied in the procedure of the materials list (e.g. location on car, resting time between rides/starting heart rate, who I sat beside…) CV 1

H&W DC 1 RWE 1 #L 1 How (and how often) Measurements Taken The Procedure states or implies what measurements are recorded and when. Note: The simple phrase “take measurement” or “record data”, etc. is not acceptable – must state “what” is being measured and “when” together. Repeated Trials More than one trial is planned to measure the Responding Variable. Note: “Repeat Whole Experiment” is acceptable. Numbered Logical Instructions The instructions of the Procedure are logical and detailed enough to avoid making mistakes (examples of illogical steps: no ending time indicated; states Set up as diagrammed, but diagram is inadequate; recording vague data or results).

We’ll grade the CER one Item at a time using the common 4pt rubric.

Read the rubric descriptions above carefully - THEN read the paragraph the student has written focusing on JUST THE CLAIM.

C x for the Claim, award 1, 2, 3 or 4 pts

Read the rubric descriptions above carefully - THEN read the paragraph the student has written focusing on JUST THE EVIDENCE.

E x for the Evidence, award 1, 2, 3 or 4 pts

Read the rubric descriptions above carefully - THEN read the paragraph the student has written focusing on JUST THE REASONING.

R x for the Reasoning, award 1, 2, 3 or 4 pts
