Background Vienna Declaration 2006 presented at the informal conference of Health Ministers at the formal Council in June 2006 Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is rapidly increasing IFG and risk factors of type 2 diabetes rapidly increasing in Mediterranean region
Mission The project develops and implements strategies for assessment, prevention and communication to respond to increasing non-communicable disease threats, particularly type 2 diabetes (T2D) in the Mediterranean region
Aims of the project To assess the prevalence of glucose metabolism disorders in the Mediterranean region To assess the impact of lifestyle interventions according to baseline lifestyle habits and biomarkers related to glucose metabolism disorders To develop and implement a novel intervention and communication program for people at high risk for T2D To implement the new European Guidelines of T2D Prevention in the Mediterranean region To develop a curriculum for health professionals and to train them T2D diabetes prevention To assess the direct costs of T2D prevention in primary care
Methodology MED_PLAN consists of 10 workpackages (WPs) Integrated into three large EU projects –IMAGE project (Munich/Dresden) –DE-PLAN (Helsinki/Madrid) –InterAct (Cambridge)
