FMCSA, Canada, and Australia completed studies 2007 & TRB suggested a pilot program ATRI published report on the Benefits of alternative compliance CVSA requested Pilot Program 3

Beyond Compliance includes voluntary programs implemented by motor carriers that exceed regulatory requirements and improve the safety of commercial motor vehicles and drivers operating on the Nation’s roadways by reducing crashes. 4

Examples of Beyond Compliance Programs and Technology: –Driver Violation Notification Feasibility Study –Study on Roll Stability Control Systems –Study on Analysis of Benefits and Costs of Lane Departure Warning Systems for the Trucking Industry 5

Examples of Non-Governmental Safety Related Programs: ‒ North American Fatigue Management Program ‒ ISO 9000 ‒ Canada’s Partners in Compliance (PIC) Outside of the U.S. Successful Implementation of: ‒ Australian Trucking Association TruckSafe Program ‒ Canadian Standards Safety Management System 6
