The Early Childhood Center Colleen McGaunn

Target Audience The target audience of ‘The Early Childhood Center’ is children ages 2 to 5 years old. - There are lower level activities such as shape and color recognition for the younger child. -There are higher level activities such as spelling words and keyboard practice for the older child.

Instructional Objectives Upper-Case, Lower-Case Matching: Students will match the upper case letters of the alphabet to the corresponding lower case letters Shape Recognition: Students will be able to recognize and match the following shapes: star, cross, circle, triangle, square, and diamond. Identifying Colors and Word Recognition: Students will be able to identify colors and then with that skill, recognize their corresponding color word. Sound Recognition and Spelling: Students will learn and practice vowel sounds. Students will also practice spelling color and shape words.

Instructional Use Instructional use for ‘The Early Childhood Center’ would best be : -Give the children a few minutes to work on the computer to reinforce skills learned in a days lesson. -During indoor recess, have a computer center available for the children to have extra time to practice these important basic skills.

Strengths and Weaknesses Strengths The website is easy to use for young children. There is a speaking voice to help better understand the skills. The child using the website is rewarded when they answer is correct with a balloon on the screen. Weaknesses The website does not show any directions on how to complete some of the activities. For example: Matching the lower case letters, if the child is unsure of what to do, there is no way for them to find out on their own.
