FRIDAY – HAPPY FRIDAY No Opening Please get out folders with research. Introduction Intro to S/V agreement

Introduction Take out 2 write ups, first two articles you annotated, and your outline sheet Introduction ◦ Audience is someone who may or may not be aware this is an issue. ◦ Purpose of Introduction – to explain what the issue happens to be, the various views on the topic that people might hold. ◦ Your thesis will address the pros and cons that need to be considered in evaluating this topic. ◦ Intro should be 5-8 sentences long – setting up what the issue is NOT making your case. Learning Target: I can explain my issue to someone who is not as familiar with it as I am.

SAMPLE: Black – set up of issue/background, purple – one side, red – another side, green – your focus in paper The time of days that schools start school go back a long ways to when there started being separate elementary and secondary schools. It was thought the older students could see themselves off to school while elementary children needed to be taken or helped to school. That has resulted in elementary schools starting about an hour after secondary schools with secondary schools often starting between 7:30 and 8:00. a.m. However, as our society has changed and as we have learned more about the science of students, some have begun to question if this is the best schedule. Many like the current schedule because it allows the older students to be home and act as babysitters for the younger ones when they arrive home, it has allowed extra-curriculars programs to flourish, and it has provided time for high school students to obtain jobs. However, those who have looked at the science of humans have suggested that secondary students begin functioning later in the morning, often their internal clocks have them staying up later at night, and this need for proper rest is what is essential for secondary students to learn and grow. While both sides have valid points, it is important to consider the safety of all students, the opportunities that are available or are restricted based on the school time schedule, and what creates the opportune learning environment.

Assignment Compose your introduction Decide if you need more research Monday – research and begin writing first body paragraph.
