Excellence by Design Middle States Accreditation Self Study Point Pleasant Beach School District November 17, 2015

What is Excellence by Design? (EBD) EBD encourages the use of data driven decision-making to increase student performance and the school’s organizational capacity.

A Systems Approach “Accreditation through a systems approach allows a system of schools to achieve accredited status at the same time. The accreditation lies with the System Office and the procedures and systems that it has put into effect. The accreditation then extends outward to each component school as they report adherence to and alignment with those goals and systems that have been established. Any instance where the school may not be in alignment is evaluated by the System Office and accepted.”

The Planning Team Responsibilities and Roles Assist in gathering information regarding district goals and current reality Review, revise, develop foundational documents Assist with creating objectives and a school improvement plan Communicate with stakeholders & gather input Oversee implementation of improvement plan

First Step…Mission Statement A Mission should both inspire the school’s stakeholders to achieve a better future and communicate in brief terms what the school aspires to become. The Mission statement should represent a collaborative effort of all stakeholders. **Let’s get started!!

Objective: discuss, review, and revise Mission statement with group members Consider the following: wording content needs of 21 st century learners technology our changing world We will discuss the changes and create one viable Mission statement for our district at the next meeting.

Next Step…School Beliefs Inventory “Outline of what the school’s community of stakeholders are willing to ‘go to the mat’ defending. Because beliefs identify a ‘line in the sand,’ they can be used as a lens for examining the worthiness of the school’s potential decisions or future actions. Beliefs act as a moral compass for the school.”

Objective: discuss and complete inventory with group members In groups, review, discuss, and rate elements contained in School Beliefs Inventory handout. We will regroup to discuss. Next meeting: create our own set of School Beliefs

Next meeting – Dec. 14, 2015 Review the 5 proposed Mission statement drafts and finalize a district Mission statement Use School Belief Inventory results to create our District School Beliefs Thank you for your time and dedication!!
