Questions: 1-How has your country curbed this disease? 2-How effective are the measures put in place to check the disease?

A PROBLEM WE FACE  An estimated 40,000 children in South Africa are infected with HIV each year, reflecting poor prevention of the mother-to-child transmission.  AIDS is one of the main contributors to South Africa’s infant mortality rate.

HIV prevention in South Africa OUTLINE  AIDS awareness programs  Condom use and distribution  HIV and sex education  Circumcision  ABSTAINANCE

HIV testing in South Africa  The government has created free testing campaigns that travel around different towns and provide free tests.

Antiretroviral treatment in South Africa  Treatment guidelines  Late initiation of treatment  Child treatment  Sustaining treatment programmes  Task-shifting  The future of AIDS treatment in South Africa

General Information  The ARV provision in South Africa is free of charge for people who cannot afford it.  This treatment takes control of the Virus  It is the government’s duty to make sure that this drug is accessible  There are mobile clinics that ensure the distribution of these drugs to rural communities and city and township dwellers can receive the treatment at their local clinic or hospital

Initiative  LOVE LIFE An NGO that works hand in hand with the government to seize the contraction of this virus  Link:  This is a site targeted to the youth for the knowledge and understanding of this Virus. This initiative is even broadcasted on T.V with shows that they sponsor like Soul Buddiez and Heart Lines

Additional information  Their sub headings What's my risk of HIV? Getting Tested for HIV ARVs are not a cure Prevention is the only cure  These are only some of the headings under this site.

Conclusion  South Africa has indeed curbed this virus and we believe that the government has worked extra hard to take control of the virus.
