… but my Granny said -!!! English spelling is very difficult and you will not always have spell check to correct you as you go. Also, when you are reading it is important to know what those funny letters are saying to you even though those same funny letters do not always follow their own rules! I before E, except after C, or when sounding as AY as in neighbor and weigh was often taught as a mnemonic device to aid in spelling, but it often did more harm than good. Who can tell me what “mnemonic” means?
