Air Masses  Areas of air that have about the same density, temperature, humidity, and pressure.  Cold air masses usually move south towards the equator.

Types of Air Masses Maritime tropical (mT)Maritime polar (mP) Continental tropical (cT)Continental polar (cP)

North American Air Masses 1. Polar Air Masses A.mP - cool, moist B.cP - Cold, dry C.cP - Very cold, dry 2. Tropical Air Masses A. mT - Warm, moist B. cT – Hot, dry C. mT – Warm, moist

Fronts Def: The boundary between two air masses.

Types of Fronts Cold Front – cold air is advancing and displacing warmer air.

Cont. Warm Front – warm air pushing ahead and displacing colder air.

Stationary front – If neither front is displacing and nothing moves

Occluded front – when a cold front overtakes a warm front.
