Project #2: Pop Art Candy Painting Quick look ahead… We will review the criteria later, but first we must learn and practice tempera techniques!

Tempera supplies -paint brush -paint -cake pan -cup cake liners -paper towel -newspaper

Tempera paint Is a permanent, fast-drying painting medium consisting of colored pigments mixed with a water soluble binder (temper is water based)

How to care for Brushes

Caring for brushes while painting Tempera paint dries fast! don’t let the paint dry on the brush. Store brush in water when you are not using it!

Caring for brushes after painting One person at your table will clean the brushes for your row Run brushes under the water Use your fingers to get all the paint out of the brushes Use a tiny bit of soap to get all the paint out Check your brushes with a paper towel to make sure there is not paint left in the brush Lay brushes on cafeteria tray to dry

Properly storing brushes Brushes are most vulnerable to damage when wet When the hairs are wet, shape the hairs the way you want them to dry Lay the brushes on the cafeteria to dry This is what happens when you neglect to shape your brushes. They will dry this way.

Caring for your brushes Important!!! If paint dries on brush your brush will be ruined and you will never be able to use it again

If you don’t properly clean and take care of your brushes, the bristles will be stiff and unusable.

Remember to change your rinse water often so your colors are pure and clean!
