Marion Anderson Born February 27, 1897, in Philadelphia, Marian Anderson displayed vocal talent as a child, but her family could not afford to pay for formal training. Members of her church congregation raised funds for her to attend a music school for a year Because of that training and her talent in 1955 she became the first African American singer to perform as a member of the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. She fought the racial divide (segregation) in several ways so that she could show her talents to people of all races

March On Washington For Jobs and Freedom Program Answer the questions on your handout that go along with the program on your handout

What is a Mandala? A mandala is any form of a circular geometric design that contains symbols of a person’s inner self, guiding principles, and overall ideas about the world. The significance of objects within a mandala is conveyed by shape, size, and color. The objects can be abstract designs or specific drawings of people, places, and ideas that are central to a person’s life.
