Tuesday – October 8, 2013 Mr. Lombardi Do Now: 1.Describe two circumstances when you spoke to someone and they heard you but did not listen to you. 2.Describe one time when someone spoke to you and you didn’t know what they said to you after they finished. Aim: How can “Active Listening” make learning easier?

Schedule for tomorrow, Wednesday October 9

You have an opportunity to walk in the park in a nice afternoon with someone you admire and would like to know better. As you are walking, you are directing the conversation to show that you think they are nice. While you are talking, the other person is skimming rocks across the lake, laughing at a dog chasing a stick, chasing pigeons, and waving at an acquaintance on the other side of the lake. 1.How do you feel? 2.Why do you feel that way? 3.What are the signs that the person is disinterested? 4.How would a person act if they liked you too?

An interested conversationalist

With a partner… 1.Partner “A” reads the top cartoon and explains it to Partner “B”. 2.Partner “B” must use active listening techniques and repeat back to Partner “A” what the cartoon is about. 3.Change roles for the bottom cartoon 4.Answer the two questions together in your notebooks.
