Strengths Signature Strengths Adaptability Harmony Consistency Includer Competition Values in Action Strengths Industry, diligence, and perseverance Hope, optimism and future-mindedness Modesty and humility Spirituality, sense of purpose, and faith Citizenship, teamwork, and loyalty

Opening Statement In HDF 190 I learned many things about how to be a leader and different leading styles. One thing that I really could relate to is the Servant Leader Model. I believe a leader is there to help a group succeed by itself. I also like how it says a servant leader puts the group before themselves which I believe is very important for a group to succeed.

SECTION 1: SELF LEADERSHIP 15.HDF 190Leadership Institution I took the strengthsquest test online and it gave me my strengths. They are adaptability, harmony, consistency, includer, and competition. I see them in action a lot more now that I know them. For example at the Leadership Institute I was using my harmony strength when we were talking in our small groups. I see my other strength a lot in doing work for my classes. For example I use my adaptability strength when I need to make time for group projects. I use my consistency strength everyday in class. I always do the work I need to. My includer strength is used in group projects. I do not like if a person feels they are not helping the group so I try to include them. I also use my competition strength every day. I think of the competition strength as always trying your best and that is what I do. Some of weaknesses are communication and not knowing how to say no. I have a hard time pronouncing some word so it sometime hard for you to communicate ideas. Not saying no is another weakness. I want to help people so when they ask for help I help them but some time I need to put myself first.

SECTION 2: Leadership Theory and Models 34.Students will demonstrate knowledge of the “4 V’s” theory of leadership by Grace (Center for Ethical Leadership) HDF 190The 4 V’s are values, vision, voice, and virtue. As a leader you need to be aware of the 4 V’s. As a leader you need to know your values. Values are what you hold dear to yourself. You cannot only know your values you need to act on them. It is also important that you make sure your group members know their values. Vision, you need to know where you are going. You cannot just make it up as you go; you need to plan what you are doing. Voice, you need to be able to describe your vision to your peers. This helps you accomplish your vision because everyone is on the same page. Virtues, when you know your other 3 V’s you understand your virtues and you use them to be an Ethical leader.

SECTION 3: Inclusive Leadership / Diversity and its application to leadership 66.Student will create a personal code of inclusive leadership HDF 190StrengthsSince one of my strengths is includer, inclusive leadership is very important to me. I believe that everyone should have a part in the group. Even if they can only do a small task in the long run it will help the group because there will be no complains about not have something to do. Another thing that is important is making sure that everyone feels there task is important. You can accomplish this by supporting them, praising them, and explaining to them that they are a key part of the group. You can also do it by giving them a little more work to do because it shows you trust them.

SECTION 4: Critical Thinking 72.Student will describe personal examples of having used five decision making methods HDF 190 > THE 100 > High School football team > High school Interact Club. I have had to make many decisions in high school and in college. I used method 1, decision made by authority without group discussion, when I was running the tech rehearsal for my THE 100 class. I had to decide on my own when to move on the next Q for sound and light. I used method 2, decision by expert, when I had to decide on how to set up a project in my accounting class in high school. I was not an expert on how to set it up but I did have the most knowledge on how to. I used method 3, decision by averaging individuals’ opinions, when my group for my HDF 190 was deciding when to meet to work on the project. I was a part of using method 4, decision made by authority after group discussion, when my high school football team was deciding who the captains were going to be. The coach made the finally decision but the whole team was ask their opinion. Finally I used method 5, decision by majority vote; in my high school Interact club. We took a vote on what we want to donate to the heifer fund.

SECTION 5: Interpersonal and Organizational Concepts and Skills 79.Student will demonstrate knowledge of active listening techniques ParentsLeadership Institution My active listening skills come from my parents. Then they were strengthen at the Leadership Institution. The most important thing to know is what is active listening or just listening. Active listening actually knowing and understanding what someone is saying not just hearing what they are saying. You also need to show that you are listening by responding, making eye contact, and nodding or making some kind of gesture that show you are listening. If you do not do this the person thinks you are not active listening and it is the person talking opinion that counts.
