Graphing Notes
Data: information being gathered quantitative: numbers qualitative:description; not numbers Why collect Data? When data is collected; it can be used to prove or disprove a hypothesis; evidence Data Table: Chart used to organize data
Grading Period (Quarter) 1234 Class Average (%) Grading Period (Quarter) 1234 Class Average (%) nd Period Biology Class Average 4 th Period Biology Class Average
Graph: Picture representation of the data Why Graph? Visually allows us to see trends and patterns in the data Variable: What you are collecting data about (time, temperature, grades) Unit: How you are collecting the data (by minute, degree Celsius, percentages)
Independent Variable: Variable that you can control (usually time) Dependant Variable: Variable that you are observing; this data depends on the changes in independent data
Ordered Pairs: the two numbers that relate to one another Example: Time (days)1234 Temperature (Celcius) The ordered pairs would be: (1,27) (2, 28) (3,28) (4,30)
