Why are we going? ●The TDSB has a commitment to offer outdoor experiential learning opportunities to all students ●SOES is an outdoor school, students will be having an amazing time learning outdoors with curriculum connected programs selected by their teachers in conjunction with the expertise of SOES staff ●SOES is a TDSB run centre operating according to TDSB policy and procedures ●There is no better way to create class community than on an outdoor education trip

About SOES ✿ SOES is located on 300 hectares of land adjacent to Algonquin Park, providing a unique and unheard of experience for our students to visit some of Ontario’s most remote landscape. ✿ The old Scarborough Board of Ed. bought the property in 1978 and it has been in operation for students ever since. ✿ SOES staff are AMAZING at helping students connect with nature in a meaningful, safe, learning environment.

Platinum Eco School ●Students become more aware of their ecological footprint, systems thinking and ecological literacy; ●Students take action; from being responsible for what they put on their own plate to helping conserve energy and resources on site; ●Programming possibilities like an Earth Repair Project combine meaningful action with environmental learning.

These forms must be completed and returned to your teacher to ensure that students have permission to attend and that the staff at SOES are aware of any medical conditions or dietary needs. Dietary concerns need to be as detailed as possible to ensure a safe and healthy trip. ●Parent/Guardian Permission for Excursion 511c ●Medical Information 511e Forms

Adventure! (whatever the weather!!!) Students are well equipped to be safe in the outdoors

Team Building, Growth, Challenge high ropes course, vertical playground, climbing wall

All day hikes deep into the woods Old growth forest, the porcupine dens, clapping rocks and a myriad of fascinating natural features await students for exploration!

Springtime Waterfront SOES has a super-safe waterfront and staff to make sure our students have a great time in our giant Montreal Canoe, swimming in the lake and visiting the special features the lake has to offer by canoe. For many, this is the first time jumping into a lake to swim!

Fall Fun This is a fabulous time of year to be out in the forest. Some of our fall programs include forest hikes with the beautiful colors of the changing leaves, aboriginal studies, map and compass orienteering, the predator and prey simulation, high and low ropes at our adventure course and camp outs.

Winter Wonderland What a great way to enjoy the snow! Cross country skiing, snowshoe hikes, cook out lunches and beautiful, crisp winter nights.
