LET’S REVIEW! What two things make up the setting of a story? Time and Place Why is the setting important to a story? (Think about “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi”)
MOOD What is a mood? The mood of a text is the feeling a piece of literature awakens in a reader.
THE GRAVEYARD BOOK Look at the cover art for The Graveyard Book. What mood does it evoke? Flip through the book and look at the chapter titles and images. How do these help create the mood of the book as well? What predictions can you make about the novel based on the text features?
JOURNAL QUESTIONS What are some words that the author has used so far that help create the setting and mood for the story? How do these words help create an image of what is happening?
