Unit 4: Delegation defined The act of getting someone to take on part of your responsibility and giving him/her sufficient authority to do that work. As Bateman & Snell stated (2012), “…the assignment of authority and responsibility to a subordinate at a lower level…getting work done through others.” (Bateman & Snell, Chapter 6, p. 126.) 10

There are a number of reasons why people have trouble delegating. What is the most common reason people might give for NOT delegating? 12
