Committees of Visitors (COVs) Fae Korsmo Acting Deputy Office of Polar Programs

COVs bring external, expert judgment to review the integrity, quality, and effectiveness of the NSF program’s merit review processes and management and the resulting portfolio of awards made. But we no longer ask COVs to consider the results of NSF investments (we communicate results in other ways).

COVs: Options for portfolio review Option A: generic questions on balance, representation, award size and duration, integration of research and education, innovation, overall quality Option B: questions tailored by each division to specific program/division goals AC thoughts?

OPP’s Proposed COV Approach for CY Each Science Division holds a COV integrating infrastructure, logistics, environment, health and safety The two COVs could be held at different times Start with Arctic AC thoughts?
