SEN and Disability Reform

Who I am and about this presentation Me: Rebecca Miles- Project Manager Leicestershire County Council About this presentation: To let you know about the changes to services for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities

Background Children and Families Act received Royal Assent – April 2014 The big things you need to know: – Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) changes – New Code of Practice for Special Educational Needs

Local Offer A website containing information about education, health and social care services – available to children and young people with Special educational needs and/or disabilities We have a new local offer we need to do more work on this in the future

Education, health and care plans Everyone working together For children and young people aged in full time education Will describe interests and the views of the young person and their family Will describe goals across education, health and social care and make sure we are ready for when young people become adults

Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities Support Plan For children and young people who do not have high support needs Everyone works together to make the plan- this might be people like your family and school. You can use this information to go into an Education Health and Care plan if you need to in the future

Transition arrangements Children and young people who have a statement of special educational need or a learning difficulty assessment will need to be changed to the new plan. We will do this between 2014 and This will happen at their yearly review A letter will be sent with the date of a young persons transition before it happens

Joint commissioning Local councils and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG’s) will work together to make sure young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities have the support they need

Personal budgets Young people with an Education Health and Care plan can ask for a personal budget to help pay for their support More personal budget payment options and the range of services you can purchase will increase over the coming months
